Grant Wood Area Education Agency strives to improve teaching and learning by providing quality educational programs and services that not only meet the current and emerging needs of students and educators, but also make a measurable difference in student learning.
Our curriculum, instruction and assessment services for schools address, at a minimum, reading, language arts, mathematics and science. They include support in establishing standards, collecting and analyzing student achievement and learning climate data, and using this information to improve student learning.
Adapted Physical Education
All students who receive special education services must receive instruction in physical education. Great physical education teachers, using curricula tied to national standards, employing appropriate and evidenced-based instructional practices, is foundational to adapting physical education for ALL learners.

Blended & Personalized Learning
GWAEA supports districts with designing, implementing and sustaining a blended practice in the classroom to meet the specific instructional needs of every student.
Career & Technical Education
The Career and Technical Education program connects careers with education. CTE broadly encompasses six service areas: agriculture, food and natural resources; applied sciences, technology, engineering, and manufacturing; business, finance, marketing and management; health science; human services; and information solutions.
°ÅÀÖÊÓÆµ has an interdisciplinary computer science team committed to supporting area schools in addressing computer science standards. The Iowa State Board of Education adopted voluntary in June 2018. Â The standards include five concept areas and seven practices. To learn more go to our Computer Science page.

English Language Learners
The GWAEA English Learners resource team is available to support school districts and teachers in serving the students and families of this growing population. We currently serve over 3,000 students speaking more than 80 languages. As this population grows, the EL Resource Team is here to support you!
Future Ready IowaÂ is an initiative to build Iowaâ€™s talent pipeline, led by Governor Kim Reynolds and the Future Ready Alliance.
GWAEA has reading and language arts consultants who can provide building-wide professional development, assistance with curriculum development, support for selecting materials, models of instructional approaches and ongoing consultant in reading, writing, speaking and listening for K-12 students.
°ÅÀÖÊÓÆµ Math team provides ongoing support to schools and districts in the area of Mathematics through positive collaborative relationships, with the belief that every student can learn, and a focus on improvement in the area of Math.
GWAEAâ€™s science consultants partners with educators to create high-quality science learning environments through well-designed curriculum, professional development for teachers and administrators, classroom materials, assessment strategies, and development of multiple networks of support.

Social Emotional Behavior Health
Social, emotional, behavioral and mental health affects how we think, feel, communicate, act and learn. °ÅÀÖÊÓÆµ has a continuum of SEBH support systems to help students and educators.
